Last week, Aebi Schmidt Denmark hosted its "Åbent hus" – Open House – event, welcoming customers and visitors to Fredericia. The event provided the perfect opportunity to experience Aebi Schmidt’s solutions up close and further establish the young Danish branch in the market.

NetZeroCities supports more than 100 cities, including the Italian provincial capital of Padova, which aim in a pioneering role to become climate-neutral already by 2030. To achieve this challenging goal, Padova has established a platform of partners. One of them is the Italian municipal service provider AcegasApsAmga, which is also focussing on emission-free sweeping.

In the assembly workshop in Tiefenhäusern, not far from our plant in St. Blasien, Germany, our specialists are working with high pressure and precision on two high-performance snow blowers for the Norwegian state railway company Bane NOR. The Schmidt eCleango 550 was honoured as "Winner" in the "Excellence in Business to Business - Automotive Technologies" category of the German Innovation Award 2024. The jury of experts was particularly impressed by the modular high-voltage battery and the modern design of the driver's cab.

At a time when sustainability and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important, the eCleango 550 is setting new standards. Equipped with an impressive battery capacity of up to 153 kWh, it enables CO2 emission-free work for up to 10 hours without intermediate charging. This advanced technology allows even longer sessions to be carried out without interruptions.

Every year on 5 December, the town of Küssnacht am Rigi in Switzerland comes to a standstill. For the annual Klausjagen (Nicholas chase) festival, over 1,500 men parade through the town in central Switzerland with whips, bells, horns and colourful lanterns, known as ‘Iffelen’. Some 30,000 visitors flock to Küssnacht to watch the spectacle. This creates a lot of work for staff at the local road maintenance depot the following day. Aebi Schmidt has assisted the road maintenance team by providing three additional sweepers, including electric models Schmidt eSwingo 200⁺ and Schmidt eCleango 550, to clean the streets after the major festival.

In winter road maintenance, it is often necessary to treat particularly critical areas, such as bridges or steep and sloping stretches, with specially deployed spray vehicles or with stationary de-icing agent spraying systems. This approach incurs additional costs because of the special vehicles, routes or equipment. In Vienna, however, it has been shown that there is another way. We wanted to know how and spoke to engineer Dr. Peter Nutz, Head of Planning and Winter Maintenance at Municipal Department 48.

Europe's largest outdoor exhibition is back after a 4-year break - Demopark attracted over 33,000 visitors to the airfield in Eisenach-Kindel from 18 - 20 June. On the 25-hectare exhibition area, national and international guests from the municipal technology sector met 400 exhibitors. Aebi Schmidt Germany was right in the middle of it and showed novelties such as the fully electric Schmidt eCleango 550 sweeper and the motor mower Aebi CC 140e.

London Luton Airport (LLA) has been able to cut its optimum runway clearance and de-icing time to less than 12 minutes thanks to an upgraded winter maintenance fleet. The super-quick time compares to one hour and 20 minutes in 2011, a time saving of over an hour, because of new equipment and refined methods for runway clearance and de-icing.

Independent family-owned Shorts Group has been able to win extra business after adding two truck-mounted Schmidt Street King 660 sweepers to its hire fleet. Our compact sweepers are manufactured in St. Blasien (Germany) and Burgdorf (Switzerland). Both plants purchase 100% of their electricity from fully renewable sources. Sustainability also plays an important role in the choice of materials and components. What percentage would you estimate can be recycled from a compact sweeper at the end of its lifetime?

The Wasa 300⁺ is a firm favourite for cleaning large areas in industrial and port zones and for cleaning heavily soiled roads in small towns and communities. It can comfortably handle big jobs thanks to its large container and tank volume and prevents fine dust particles from escaping into the air thanks to its mechanical dirt absorber. Furat Kadhem, supervisor at Vemmab AB, an organisation based in Västerås (Sweden), is also a big fan.

Dubai Airport handles 250,000 take-offs and landings every year. This corresponds to about 700 aircraft movements per day. This results in several layers of rubber and soot deposits on the wide runways every day, which can significantly impair the safety of flight operations due to the loss of friction. For example, when the runway is wet, aquaplaning occurs and aircraft could slide off the runway. Effective, large-scale and reliable cleaning is therefore essential for smooth flight operations.

Bundesbeschaffung GmbH now also has the Schmidt Flexigo 150 in its range. The smallest all-rounder from the Schmidt sweeper family is distinguished by its comfortable articulated steering and high payload, among other features. It effortlessly cleans streets, pavements, pedestrian zones and narrow alleys. It is also flexible in terms of personnel deployment: it can be driven with an EU class B driving licence.

The Spanish city of Murcia shows how it’s done. They recently renewed its entire street cleaning and Refuse collection fleet. The municipality wants to reduce CO₂ emissions, save water and reduce noise pollution. It has set itself the goal of leading the way in planning and implementing its urban services for the citizens and residents of the city in a new and sustainable way. The Schmidt MSH towed sweeper is one of the most popular machines in the range of Bengt Bergs Maskinservice AB in Partille, a suburb of Gothenburg in Sweden. Instead of buying new, Manchester Airport decided to refurbish up to 12 year old Schmidt CJS Compact Jet Sweepers, resulting in an extension of their working life by up to another 10 years. Manchester Airport, the third largest in the UK and the largest outside London, operates a winter maintenance or snow fleet of up to 25 different units, including nine Schmidt CJS, a snow cutter/blower and two Schmidt ASP Airport Sprayers.

«It’s always a nice moment when the machines leave the factory,» says Thomas Berger, CEO of Aebi Schmidt Deutschland GmbH and manager of the factory in St. Blasien where the Swingo’s success story began more than 20 years ago. Our Swingo team recently celebrated a very special milestone: the delivery of the 7777th Swingo. We take a look inside the assembly hall and join the celebrations.

At a recent practical day in St. Blasien, contractors and users were given exclusive insights into the technology and production of our Schmidt Supra 4002/5002 autonomous driving snow clearing machine. In addition to visiting the production line and driving and operating the machine on the test site, the snow clearing professionals also used the event to exchange ideas among themselves.

The winter maintenance team at Lincolnshire County Council has tackled one of the strangest winter seasons on record. Thanks, in the main, to its deployment of Schmidt Stratos III spreaders fitted with route guidance and automated salting system, it’s nonetheless been one with maximum efficiency, improved safety and lower salt usage.

From the top of the Col du Pillon pass, in the west of Switzerland at 1546 meters above sea level, it takes about 15 minutes by aerial tramway to reach the top station of the glacier ski area Glacier 3000. Four snow blowers and two trucks equipped with plows ensure that the unique glacier ski area is always accessible, even for early risers. On arrival, you are usually rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Matterhorn. To ensure that access to the aerial tramway is possible at all times, heavy equipment is also needed at this altitude - for example the new Supra 4002 from Jean-Luc Busset.

Carbon-free commitments of Councils across the UK come with an increased demand for electric sweepers. Some councils are using the momentum to assess different machines before making a long-term decision. Here’s an initial feedback from Islington Council’s drivers on the Schmidt eSwingo 200⁺ fully electric compact sweeper.

Maintaining 1.000.000 m² in the city of Tartu, EKT Teed OÜ decided to add new equipment to its fleet last year. Looking back, the contractor is sure to have made the right choice in order to maintain the area 24/7, 365 days a year. And, it was not only the Street King’s features that impressed, but also the possibility of buying single source, service included.

Efforts across the U.S. to advance fuel-saving technologies and to the adoption of electric commercial vehicles and fleets are increasing. The eSwingo 200⁺ pays for itself over its lifespan, with up to 85% of energy costs and up to 70% of maintenance costs to be saved compared to sweepers with a diesel engine. The noiseless and carbon-free cleaning Schmidt eSwingo 200⁺ is proving popular with local authorities and as well as with industry experts. The eSwingo has won the Award for Excellence in Innovation at this year’s RWM and Let’s Recycle show in Birmingham (UK).

On the occasion of the Demo Days, Aebi Schmidt presented the completely revised successor model of the popular Cleango compact sweeper. The Cleango 550 has a 10% larger hopper volume and is equipped with an efficient, quiet Euro 6e diesel engine. As the eCleango 550, it is now also available with electric drive.

Ivan Bédon is 53 years old, a trained mechanic and Field Service Manager at Aebi Schmidt Ibérica. He is responsible for service and maintenance of our customers’ machines and equipment. Recently, he was called to La Palma airport on the Canary Island of the same name, where the Cumbre Vieja volcano has been spewing smoke, ash and lava into the air at regular intervals for over 50 days now. Fortunately, the volcano has not yet claimed any lives, but the destruction and suffering of the islanders is severe. Even though field service managers like Ivan are experienced in dealing with special situations, it is unusual to be called to such an area.

Aebi Schmidt's product range has the ability to be customised to meet individual customer demands – as one major Belgian customer discovered thanks to 29 specially adapted Schmidt CSP ‘combi’ sprayers. The CSP range of compact sprayers is perfect for tackling snow and ice efficiently in an environmentally friendly manner using liquid de-icing agents and is particularly effective in inner-city areas, even at low speeds.

Have&Landskab in Slagelse (DK), Scandinavia’s largest garden and landscape fair, took place from August 25 to 17, 2021 and attracted around 10,220 visitors despite the pandemic-related circumstances. The fair is aimed at professionals in the design, construction and maintenance of streets, parks and other green spaces. Jesper Buch, Manager Sales & Service Aebi Schmidt Denmark, reports on his experience at the fair.

Narrow paths wind through the densely overgrown hilly forest to one of Switzerland's most popular excursion destinations: the legendary lake named Blausee (literally translated: blue lake), shimmering crystal clear in all shades of blue. It is 100 years since Alfred Schmidt Senior opened a bicycle shop in the German town of St Blasien back in 1920. This little workshop was the birthplace of a global company: shaped by the ingenuity of Alfred Schmidt Junior, the business has not only remained a pioneer in the fields of snow clearing and de-icing, it has grown into a global leader of smart product systems and services for the treatment of mission-critical infrastructural and agricultural areas. Alfred Schmidt Junior sadly left us in April of this year, not long after his 97th birthday. Shortly before that, Thomas Berger, Managing Director of Aebi Schmidt Deutschland GmbH, and Thomas Schiess, Group Marketing Director, were able to sit down for an in-depth chat with Alfred Schmidt, accompanied by his children Uschi and Wolfgang Schmidt.
